A forest Farm in the Eastern Woodlands
Through focus on restoring native plants, we provide top-notch habitat for native mammals, reptiles, amphibians, and birds. Resident salamanders can be found under nearly every log and rock. White-tailed deer and turkeys enjoy the fruits of our labor. Black bears pay us a visit on occasion. Foxes, coyotes, bobcats, fishers, weasels, and raccoons search our property for the abundant rabbits and grouse.
What is a forest farm?
Our forest farm encourages native plant species while selectively harvesting NTFPs (non-timber forest products) such as berries, ramps, ginseng, maple syrup, great mullein, pure American Chestnut, and many others.
We read the topography and soil types to determine which species will flourish in different areas.
How do we accomplish all of this?
We plant and/or transplant native species that have been removed from the property due to past logging operations. We evaluate canopy cover, direction of sunlight, and soil type to determine where each species can thrive.
